In July 2018, TRON, a blockchain startup, acquired BitTorrent, a file sharing platform. With this, the blockchain world gained probably the largest decentralized Internet ecosystem so far.
Soon after, TRON announced that it would create its very own native token called BTT, which can be used with its file-sharing services. The company held a public sale for the token, and it was sold out almost immediately.
Then, good news for airdrop hunters and enthusiasts came: TRON announced a huge BitTorrent airdrop. And this leads us to the topic of our blog post for today. So, let’s find out more about this free airdrop.
BitTorrent airdrop – everything you need to know
In January 2019, TRON announced that it would conduct an airdrop distribution for all TRON’s TRX holders. According to the company, the distribution will start on February 11th, and it will last until 2025.
On the TRON blockchain, there are 990 billion BTT tokens created. From that number, 10.1% will be distributed as an airdrop to TRX holders over the next six years. Moreover, the airdrop will continue to increase once every February, reaching 1.7% in 2025.
Once TRON’s block height reaches 6.6 million, the team will take a snapshot of balances. Then, based on this snapshot, BitTorrent would distribute its first airdrop of 10,890,000,000 BitTorrent (BTT).
According to the spokesperson from the company, an additional 99,990,000,000 BTT will be distributed to long-time TRX holders:
To reward TRON’s long-time TRX holders, the BitTorrent Foundation also plans to airdrop additional 99,990,000,000 BTT, during online and offline events, corresponding to 10.1% of the total circulating supply.
Now that we know some basic information about BitTorrent airdrop, let’s take a look how you can join.
How to join BitTorrent airdrop
As already mentioned, you need to be a TRX holder to be eligible to participate in this airdrop distribution. It would also be good to have one of TRON’s wallets. If you don’t have one or you’re not sure how to set it up, here is our guide to help you with that.
Receiving BTT tokens is easy, and it doesn’t require any effort from your side, such as completing airdrop-related tasks. The only catch is to fill two conditions. Here they are:
- You must have some amount of TRX tokens in your wallet. Luckily, no minimum of TRX is required to qualify for BTT airdrops.
- You need a wallet for TRX that is approved by TRON. On their website, you can find the list of wallets eligible for receiving airdrop tokens.
And that’s it. Once you have some amount of TRX in your wallet, you’re all set to participate in the airdrop.
The list of exchanges supporting the BitTorrent airdrop is long, and includes popular crypto exchanges such as Binance, Huobi, OKEx, etc.
